Anthony Pateras
Anthony Pateras
Anthony Pateras (b.1979) is an Australian composer, pianist and electro-acoustic musician based in Berlin. His work explores sound and its mutation through varying constellations of notation, improvisation, electronic and acoustic materials. Pateras has written over 50 works with the aim of discovering uncommon acoustic and physical phenomena, and has been active in various bands and projects since the late 1990s, the latest being tētēma with Mike Patton. He has released numerous records for Tzadik and Editions Mego, and now runs his own Immediata label which compliments all releases with extensive essays and interviews. Anthony is in the US for the premiere of Sylvere Lotringer's film on Artaud The Man Who Disappeared, for which he provided the music.

Grafter, for solo voice, accompanimental voice, electronics, and hanging speaker installation, is the collaboratively-devised effort of vocalist Jessica Aszodi and composer/vocalist Jenna Lyle. Utilizing the physical body as a responsive apparatus to environmental stimuli, Grafter represents the objectification of the performer’s experience of her own body and that body in space, with other people. As she moves toward the audience, sound production methods and the environment surrounding the voice progress through a series of changes that highlight spatial depth as an analog to personal relation.

By/Of is a large scale work for corporeally-amplified artists, electronics, and projection. In it, Lyle and her collaborators explore the remembrance of architectural shape and the experience of space as integral to one’s perception of self within a community. A project revolving around the extended voice as it relates to contact, closeness, and the sound of sculptural movement, the work’s vocal/movement language and dramatic underpinning convey a narrative of community and decay.
