Chicago Composers Consortium
The Chicago Composers' Consortium, celebrating its 30th anniversary of presenting concerts of area composers, is delighted to be working in tandem with ~Nois for this concert. Four of our members — Lawrence Axelrod, Martha Horst, Timothy Ernest Johnson, and Elizabeth Start — will have new works on this program. Also on this program is the winner of this year's call for scores — Jeremy Rapaport Stein's compelling Lucifer Gorgonzola.

Join ~Nois as the quartet opens its 4th season with a program dedicated to their home of Chicago. The program includes existing works by Chicago-based composers Clay Mettens, Augusta Read Thomas, and Mischa Zupko along with world premieres by Jonathan Hannau, Sam Scranton, and Kelley Sheehan.

~Nois is an award-winning saxophone quartet from Chicago, IL founding in 2016. Known for its “masterclass-level demonstrations of precise articulations and glowing legatos” (I Care if You Listen), “truly innovative musicianship,” and “raw creativity” (Cacophony Magazine), the group blurs the boundaries between contemporary classical music and experimental improvisation. In recent seasons, ~Nois has performed with Eighth Blackbird, the Bang On A Can All-Stars, flutist Claire Chase, and singer-songwriter Shara Nova of My Brightest Diamond. Winners of the Silver Medal at the 2017 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and the Second Prize in the Open Division of the M-Prize International Chamber Arts competition, ~Nois has been hailed as “technically superb and musically brilliant” (ClevelandClassical.com). Dedicated to expanding the repertoire for the saxophone quartet, ~Nois has premiered over 25 works for the medium. ~Nois is Hunter Bockes, János Csontos, Jordan Lulloff, and Brandon Quarles.
