1. The ancient Romans noticed that the hottest days of the year, that is, in late July and August, coincided with the appearance of Sirius - the Dog Star, in the same part of the sky as the Sun. Sirius is the largest and brightest star in the Canis Major constellation, in fact it is the brightest star in the sky. Roman astrology connected the celestial event with increased heat, drought, sudden thunderstorms, lethargy, fever mad dogs and bad luck.
2. One week of free performances mostly pertaining, but not limited to jazz and improvised music. Generally hosted in the Bricktown Neighborhood of Chicago at the venues; Constellation, Links Hall & The Hungry Brain.

The Chicago Drum Choir was formed by Jeremy Cunningham in 2017 for a large scale composition for his forthcoming album, “The Weather Up There.” This ensemble of provided a backdrop and an emotive response to several audio interviews of Cunningham’s family discussing the effects gun violence has had on their lives following a family tragedy. During this recording process, Mike Reed, Makaya McCraven, Mikel Avery, and Cunningham improvised several percussion pieces that were recorded and sparked new compositional ideas. This performance will be the first public performance of the ensemble.

Pianist Angelo Hart and Jake Wark combine to create a dynamic duo that explores the vast possibilities of composition and improvisation. Angelo, the Phoenix native, joined with Jake earlier in the summer for a live recording and the musical connection was instantaneous.

The music is organic; living and breathing. The foundation of alot of the compositions are rooted firm in improvisation. Angelo explores the many facets of improvisation; from minimalism to wall-of-sound; From simple harmonies and melodies to intricate rhythms. He takes inspiration from jazz legends like Keith Jarrett, Oscar Peterson, John Coltrane, and Cecil Taylor as well as Classical behemoths such as Chopin, Debussy, and Liszt. Jake's undeniable sax tone takes every arrangement to a new level. Listening to these two is definitely an experience for listeners from every musical background!
