Radiant Devices
Radiant Devices
radiant devices explore a sound that draws upon art rock, downtempo electronic and industrial aesthetics. Intentional yet idiosyncratic the band has been praised for its eclecticism, originality and exuberant live shows. The group was founded in 2010 by Mojdeh and Fyodor Sakhnovski. Mojdeh is an inter-disciplinary artist, musician, 5x award winning and touring poet, educator and advocate for survivors of trauma. Her writing focuses on topics related to trauma, race, family and religion. Fyodor is a multi-instrumentalist and producer. The band's lineup is augmented by Thomas Wells. He is a former leader of industrial band Naked Lunch and post-punk band Eve Black. The band's second official release, "unheeded" (out 2.16.18) explores the experiences and effects of racism, trauma, silence, fear and grief.

"The group's music is noisy and quirky at the same time, then the guitar lines and riffs build from steady and melodic to harsh and uncomfortable." - Chicago Tribune.

"This four-member band is best described by the words 'experimental', 'poetry', and 'rock'. Definitely unafraid to go beyond traditional instruments and song structures..." - Free Your Music Soul.
Blacker Face
Blacker Face
Blacker Face is an Afropunk band whose musical language is a creole of prima facie incompatible idioms. Active in Chicago’s DIY confederacy, they are as much at home in a basement venue or an auditorium stage, performing with the likes of ONO, Palm, Mykele Deville, and RP Boo. Vocalist Jolene W/E boasts a punked-out snarl and a honeyed croon, undergirded by classical operatic training. Vocal accompaniment from pt Bell creates a dialogue of searing polemic in harrowing harmony. Instrumental accompaniment from Isaac Nicholas, Louis Clark, Noah Jones, and pt Bell brings layered African-diasporic polyrhythm, jazz chops, psych rock stream of consciousness, and a European Romantic flourish. The ensemble recounts experiences with systematic racial, sexual, gendered, and class oppression; mental and physical illness; cultural cachet and displacement; instantaneous violence, perseverance, fetishization, and kinship. Sneering one moment and bawling the next, Blacker Face’s unstable sonic juxtapositions may reach an unexpected covalence that's sure to disorient and discomfort. But the band will probably hug you afterward.
