Lonnie Holley
Lonnie Holley
Lonnie Holley has been making visual outsider art for 35 years. And he always sang while he worked on his pieces, also tinkering with synthesizers on his own time. With two recent collections of his avant-soul experimentations on Dust-To-Digital, Lonnie builds a bridge between Gil Scott-Heron and Alice Coltrane's Turiya Sings. He approaches both his visual art and his music the same — reacting to what is in front of him. His vibrancy comes from being presented with something new. Rehearsals are not useful. His music is about the very moment in which is unfolds. Lonnie's words, on the other hand, come from a deep place based on his life experiences. He has an endless energy and a wild curiosity that seems to be capturing the hearts and minds of both the music and fine art worlds.

"His music is a blues nebula, splotched with riffy word jazz that shares in some rappers’ collagist aesthetics as well as the runaway passion of a gospel preacher enlivened by the Spirit." — Aquarium Drunkard

"The closest thing America has to a prophet." — Noisey

"It's arrestings — Lonnie's voice is arresting." — FADER
The Horse's Ha
The Horse's Ha
The Horse's Ha is the guitar and voice duo of Janet Bean (Eleventh Dream Day, Freakwater) and James Elkington (Brokeback, Daughn Gibson, Freakwater, Eleventh Dream Day, Jon Langford's Skull Orchard, etc). In addition to playing guitar or drums in the aforementioned bands, Elkington has released an album of finger-style guitar duets with Nathan Salsburg for Tompkins Square. Waterdrawn, The Horse's Ha's second album, is a stripped-down record built on the foundation of Bean's country-tinged voice and Elkington's folk-inspired guitar playing with a minimum of ornamentation. Drawing strength and influence from Shirley Collins' and Davy Graham's genre-defining album, New Routes, Folk Routes and Donovan's early endeavors, The Horse's Ha wrote a collection of songs that harkens back to the British folk boom without replicating it and points the group in a new direction.

"When you're writing your life is like an aquarium. Some things float and some things don't. Some things breathe and some drown. Some look better and some worse. That's the moment I know I'm writing: when I've filled the room with water." - Tom Waits Sink in with songwriters NAOMI ASHLEY, ADAM FITZ & DONNELL REED for the debut of our I HEAR VOICES series TONIGHT! http://www.constellation-chicago.com/event/686327-i-hear-voices-naomi-ashley-chicago/
